WalkAbout Wonders-Water Dog

WalkAbout; we know this from the Australian Aborigine youth, where they would have to go and live out in the wilderness as a rite of passage into adulthood.  So I am shamelessly changing that idea around to suit my own purposes for this blog.  I hope you can forgive me.  For my purposes WalkAbout is where I take my camera and randomly wander around somewhere looking for something beautiful, interesting, unique or just fun to take pictures of.

I want to do something a little bit different for these posts and borrow from when a few of my friends and I were doing a photography blog together. I post the details of my shot. The camera and lens I used, my settings and what kind of editing I did in Photoshop, along with a blurb about the photo. I miss doing this and how it helped me out while doing that blog. Hope it can be of some use to those of you reading this or at least fun for you to see.

For my first WalkAbout post I was practicing trying to capture water in motion, stop action droplets if you will.  This was not my plan for this post, but I love how God just throws stuff at you and changes things.

This was actually a really fun shot to take.  I had Nanook out and he was getting very wet and dirty playing around in our pond.  He would attack sticks and shake his head to crack them, like he was attacking them, goofy dog.  He would paw around in the water until he could unearth something.  When I saw the water droplets flying from his head shakes, I immediately turned my attention to trying to capture the droplets.  Fun times!! 

My shutter was not as fast as I thought it was.  I was thinking I was up more towards the 640-800 range, but it worked.  As far as editing goes I, of course, turned it to black and white and upped my clarity and contrast, and that is about all.  I will post more of these pictures on my Rothert Huskies facebook page, look us up :) and at http://lightofworldphoto.smugmug.com if you are interested in seeing more of them.  

Doing posts like this helps me practice my photography by forcing me to look around and see the beauty or uniqueness of the world. Allows me to practice my "photography eye" which I sometimes think I am lacking. The ability to "see" the picture where others may not. I can also use it to practice new techniques or ones I am not as good at.
