Part of the fun for me about traveling is the planning. I LOVE that little zing you get when you pull out a map of the USA and figure out where and when you want to go somewhere. I also love the, gulp, research about that place you want to go to. What I don't love haha, is figuring out the expenses of that trip :(. So as I'm sitting here writing this post, I'm mostly kind of doing this post for me. I like to have things down on paper(or computer screen) because my travel plans change with the breeze sometimes and I like to have options. As I list my "planned" trips, I will probably list more then I can do in a year, but at least I have my choices and I can go from there. Hope you enjoy reading about them.
None of these pictures below are my pictures!! Below the pictures are the various owners whose copyrights belong to these pictures and the links attached are to their respective websites. I just know that a post without pictures is a very boring blog indeed and as a fellow photographer myself I would never want to claim pictures that are not mine.
Trip Number 1 - March Family Road Trip
Shiloh, TN to Gulf Shores, AL to Vicksburg, MS
Photo taken by coolbreezecotton via flickr
I am a Civil War history buff, so I love to go and visit battlesites and Military Parks, so that is part of what this trip will concentrate on. I want to hit Shiloh National Military Park, Vicksburg National Military Park, and The Battle of Mobile Bay. I also am needing a mental health vacay so some sitting on the beach will be in order. Aquariums, zoos, a battleship, and dolphins are just a few things on my list to do on the Gulf Shores.
Trip Number 2 - Late May-June Long Weekend
Flint Hills, KS
Photo taken by JC Richardson for National Geographic Magazine via flickr
In my quest to visit more places close to me AND to visit all 50 states my trip to the Flint Hills, KS takes care of both of those. Not to mention the area is just supposed to be gorgeous!! I hope to visit Alcove Spring which is a stop on the Oregon Trail and take a scenic drive. I'm also hoping I get a chance to see some spring flowers and want to hit a garden and/or zoological park and do some bike riding along several bike trails in the area.
Trip Number 3 - July Solo Road Trip
Options:
Maryland Panhandle
West Virginia
Put-In-Bay(Lake Erie), Ohio
I honestly haven't decided yet where I want to go. I hope that I can get in a solo trip this year. I have tried for the last few years and haven't done it yet. Mostly because my husband has wanted to take a trip with me, just the two of us. I can't argue with that :) and we have a limited amount of time to be able to go by ourselves, which is the same amount of time that I can go on my solo trips. We will see how it works out this year. All I know is, the trip will be full of scenic drives, possible historic sites, shopping, relaxing and lots and lots of picture taking. As soon as I get a further handle on it I will post more.
Trip Number 4 - October Fall Colors Trip Long Weekend
Options:
Gettysburg, PA
Hocking Hills, OH
Black Hills, SD
Arkansas Scenic Hwy 7
Due to the fact that my husband harvests in the summer and my son is in school I am somewhat limited on time for my fall colors trip, so I am trying to figure out where to go that is somewhat close to me. I can't hit the northeast yet, that's in my future plans, but any of the places above would be absolutely fantastic as well. This trip is filled with lots and lots of hiking, scenic drives, searching for beautiful fall colors, and more picture taking. Anything that is outdoors and near trees.
So there you have it, my plans, such as they are, for my 2013 travel. One day I hope to go international, but for right now I am concentrating on the USA. There is so much that I want to see here in the states.
Happy 2013 travels to you!!
