Photo Friday - Toes In the Sand

Springtime in the midwest is hard to come by these days.  It has been so cold and rainy and just plain nasty the last several days that my mind wants to go back to here.
Glen Haven Beach Michigan

Funny thing is summertime isn't even my favorite time of the year, but I'm dying for some sun and warmth.  I don't need shorts weather yet, but tee shirt and jeans sounds just fabulous.
This picture was taken at Glen Haven beach on the shores of Lake Michigan last summer.  My husband and I had taken a quick, mini, just the two of us vacation on a whim.  And by whim I mean that I woke up to my husband smiling at me, holding up a duffel bag and going "Where to, honey?"  It was pretty awesome!  We had a minor disagreement between Minnesota and Michigan.  Michigan won!

I learned a lesson though on driving the Lake Michigan shores in July that I wanted to pass on to everybody who reads this.  As awesome as whim vacations are, apparently lots of people go to the shores of Lake Michigan in July, go figure, haha.  We had no reservations set up and ended up spending the second night driving around Ludington Michigan trying to find a hotel that wasn't booked up.  We ended up having to pay some astronomical fee for the King Jacuzzi Suite with a lake view.  Gorgeous, but WAY overpriced!  We enjoyed our jacuzzi and deck to the fullest I have to say.

Oh and this would be why I'm daydreaming about sunshine....

The road is there somewhere underneath all that water.  On the bright side its been fun playing in the mud and watching the mini rapids we have.  I wonder if I could grab my kayak and go for a ride?

Anybody else daydreaming of warmer weather and sun?

  1. I am blessed to live in north Queensland where it is summer all year long, and the beach is a ten minute drive away. I love it here but we spend much of our vacation time seeking out colder weather.

    1. I can certainly understand that :). I do like some cold weather adventures as well, like skiing. It's the cold and rain that I have issues with haha. Sounds like Queensland is a great place to visit. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Sun bath is a better way to relax. It is my favourite relaxing spot and I love it. I agree with you that sometime sun's warmth makes you feel sleepy and relaxed.

    1. Sounds like an interesting thing to try sun bath. I don't think I have ever done that before.

  3. I love last minute trips & we certainly don't take them very often! I loved reading about your adventure with your husband--what fun! I've never been to Michigan...would love to explore the lake someday.

    1. Neither do we really. I had actually been planning something else when he did that. It was fun though. Yes the Lake Michigan shoreline is very pretty. Mackinac Island is especially great. Door County Wisconsin is very pretty as well and Traverse City, MI. I hope you get a chance to visit one day.

  4. We haven't been having a great spring either so I'm starting to feel a bit desperate for sun and warmth! We have had pleasant temperatures this week but not much sunshine and tomorrow the temps are supposed to drop back down to close to freezing. I'm starting to think that we're skipping spring this year and suddenly summer will just come on with a vengeance!

    1. I know what you mean! I think that is what will happen here as well. More rain tomorrow *sigh* .

  5. Hope it warms up soon. My family and friends have been complaining bitterly about the weather.
I don't have that problem here, it's warm everyday. Sometimes though I catch myself wishing that it wouldn't get hot at 10 a.m. then I think of the alternative. Give me hot at 10 a.m. anytime!

  6. We're getting warm weather here already and though it's nice, I dread the heat more and more as I age. I think I'm starting to become a winter person.

  7. I wish you could send some of that water down to Texas, we sure do need a little of it! We will have plenty of sunshine and warm temps to send back to you!

  8. Summer isn't my favorite time of year either, but I'm sure looking forward to warmer weather. It was nearly 80 degrees here on Thursday, today, two days later, it snowed. Unbelievable. At least it was just flurries off and on and no accumulation. I'm looking forward to dipping my toes in the sand this summer too.

    1. That's the midwestern area weather for you! I know you aren't "officially" midwest I don't think out there in Ohio but close enough. I am looking forward to a beach somewhere this summer! Hoping to learn to kayak too so I can enjoy the water.

    1. We actually dried up very quickly. I think it is all the farmland around us. It helps to drain things. Thanks! Enjoying your pictures.

  10. That road shot is very interesting. I wonder how far you could kayak before you bottom out. It's always hot and humid here. I could use with a breath of fresh, spring air or a crisp autumn day.
